Congratulation to Herb Ohta, Jr for his two 2017 Na Hoku Hanohano nominations for Best ‘Ukulele Album of the Year – My ‘Ukulele World, and Instrumental Song of the Year – Le’ahi Morning. Herb will be performing at the Montalvo Arts Center on Friday, April 28 at 8:00 PM along with Side Order Band and hula by Ihilani Kamaka.

There is still space available for Bryan Tolentino’s workshop at the Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center on Thursday, April 27. This intermediate level workshop will start at 7:00 PM. Preferably, you must have knowledge and command of most chords on the first five frets, but all are welcome. Bryan will introduce you to some new ideas, thoughts, chord substitutions and vamps through Hawaiian music. He’ll also cover musical awareness as in a Hawaiian Trio. The center is located at 588 N. 4th Street, San Jose (one block from Ukulele Source). Cost of the workshop is $30.00 with a portion of the proceeds donated to Yu-Ai Kai. Come and join us for the first festival of the year, Japantown’s annual Nikkei Matsuri Festival will be held on Sunday April 23 from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. There will be a food court with traditional and non-traditional Japanese foods, arts and crafts, cultural displays and an outdoor stage where the ever popular San Jose Taiko will be performing. Ukulele Source will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Stop by and see us!
