Aloha!
If any of you have been in the store over the last week or so, you’ll notice that we’ve had some construction going on (sorry for the mess!) After visiting the NAMM show last month, and seeing all the new models coming out, we had to figure out a way to expand without knocking any more walls down! We now have the ability to hang another 28 ukuleles, bringing our total to over 100 different ukuleles on display! Some of the new products that we ordered at NAMM are starting to come in, like a capo and a humidifier made especially for ukulele. We now have in stock one of the best cases on the market. It is by far the best designed case that we’ve come across. Our first order of the new L.R. Baggs Five-0 ukulele pick up sold out in just three weeks. The good news is we received our second shipment along with the L.R. Baggs Venue, a 5 band EQ that a lot of the top performers are now using. For more information about the Five-0 or Venue, visit www.lrbaggs.com . Our first order of Mi-SI rechargeable pickups arrived today. I know a couple of you have been waiting. We apologize for the delay. Stop by and see our new look (or just come by and say hi to Koa, as some of you do!).
Joe and Kristen Souza from Kanile'a 'Ukulele will be making their first Bay Area visit on March 16. Joe will be giving a demonstration on how Kanile'a builds their ukuleles from selecting the finest woods to the finished product. If any of you have visited the Kanile'a factory, you know what an interesting process it is! After the demonstration, Joe will be performing a few songs for us, while Kristen dances hula. The event will be from 7:30 to 9:30 PM on March 16th at the Akiyama Wellness Center, 110 Jackson Street, just down the street from Ukulele Source. This is an event you won't want to miss! A donation of $5.00/person is requested. All proceeds will benefit the Akiyama Wellness Center.
Multiple Grammy Award winning artist Daniel Ho will be doing two workshops in San Jose on March 31st. In the beginning workshop Daniel will teach the six main chords in the keys of C, F, and G and how to transpose from key to key using roman numerals which can be assigned to the chord's function in a key: I, II, III, IV, V, VI. The intermediate workshop will build on what was learned in the first workshop, and you will learn to improvise with pentatonic scales. The song Ho'okahi from his latest CD Polani will be used to teach these methods. The workshops will take place at the Issei Memorial Building, 565 North 5th Street, San Jose (just down the street from Ukulele Source). The beginner workshop will be from 6:00 to 7:15 PM and the intermediate workshop will follow from 7:45 to 9:00. Cost for each workshop is $30.00, or take both for $50.00. Register soon as space is limited! For more information call or email Ukulele Source.
